Connect 4 Youth Mentoring is part of the City of Austin’s Community Youth Development program, one focused on improving the lives of youth in the Dove Springs neighborhood.
Mentor groups are created to build relationships between students and caring adults who act as a role model and life coach. The mentor/group mentees model offers youth the opportunity to learn how to develop a healthy relationship with an adult in a group setting, a skill that can be replicated with parents, teachers, and other adults.
Kids age 10-14 who either reside in or go to school in 78744 are invited to participate the mentor groups. The sessions happen once a week for one hour on school property immediately following the end of the school day. Snacks and group activities are provided. Each session includes life skills development such as open communication, conflict resolution, and self-esteem building, and uses the evidence-based PAL® curriculum as a key component.
The goal of this program is to reduce and prevent activities that can lead to juvenile delinquency. We accomplish this by building strong character and positive decision-making skills in participants.
